Vivendo
de Pão
means living on bread - food for these starved times. Drawing inspiration
from the shanty towns and tin-roofed villages of Brazil, Vivendo de Pão
distills the ability of the human spirit to overcome adversity and celebrate
life in all its richness and beauty.
Vivendo de Pão consists of six members from all over the
Americas - Brazil, New Jersey, Berkeley and San Franciso. A three person
percussion section locks the groove; a jazz influenced acoustic bass swings
the bottom end; a funkified guitar punctuates the songs with colorful
chords and a saxaphone intertwines with the melodious vocal lines.
On stage, they are joined by the Sambeijo Dancers who liven the
shows with their infectious energy and graceful movements. Stemming from
a strong tradition in Afro-Brazilian ethnic dance, Sambeijo brings
the true spirit of carnaval to the shows - innovation and celebration.
Vivendo de Pão has released two independent CDs -- Terreiro
de São Francisco and Scratch Cooking, Vol.1 -- to much
critical acclaim and are currently working on their next project.
